Pepelangelo makes your Pepe portraits! Actually, I really love doing this. I came up with the idea to make live Pepe portraits from life at big events and exhibitions so that our communication and getting to know each other become closer and deeper than usual small talk. Actually, Russians don’t have a culture of small talk, so I came up with these portraits simply to avoid that stress, and it seems people liked my idea! Usually I spend the whole day near my art stand, ready to paint anyone who sits in front of me. As a rule, a small portrait takes 45-90 minutes. I try to keep a portrait likeness, but ofc still it has to be Pepe. In a day I manage to make 5-8 portraits, and although from the outside it looks easy, in reality after such a day I can only come back to my Airbnb, eat a sandwich right in bed, and fall asleep like dead. I bring canvases, paints, an easel, and special painting liquids in my suitcase from Tbilisi so not to spend too much effort searching for necessary materials in a new country and to work exactly with the materials I am used to. There is a lot I like in this work, first of all, how people are happy when they find out that it is free. I like listening to the stories of the people who pose for me, learning about their family and work. I like looking at different faces. I love watching how people see their finished portrait and recognize themselves in Pepe! Then they bring their friends, and the friends also instantly recognize them! Sometimes in gratitude I receive a sandwich or a glass of wine, sometimes even flowers! Of course, I also receive angry emails from those whom I did not have time to paint and who waited for several days in the queue but still didn’t manage to pose (I ask people in the queue to decide themselves whose turn it is and not involve me in it). Of course, from the point of view of painting quality these are not ideal results… but I tenderly love each of these portraits. At the end of April I will go to Las Vegas for @VegasBitcoiners to do this again (I will have about 30 hours of flight). I know it will not be easy, but I have been preparing for this for several months and I am sure we will have a great time together, my dear Pepe lovers!
