Teams are fragile because they are personal, social, and emotional. But that can also make a team stronger. What strong teams do that weak teams don't:

Secret damage to kids happening in plain sight: Insistence that everything must be enjoyable and feel good all the time. If it isn’t, it must be bad, therefore avoided and removed. Adults inflict this same damage on themselves and project it onto kids who don’t know any better.

If you read and watch one thing today, make it this: “Opportunity and adversity. We get both of them and they're guaranteed, but there's three things we don't know: 1. We don't know when they're coming. We know we're getting them, we just don't know when. 2. We don't even know what they look like. We're not sure what they're gonna look like. 3. The biggest one — we're not even sure which one is which when we're in it.”

You can justify complaining all you want, but it doesn’t change the truth that complaining puts you in a dangerous position: unable to solve the problem, unwilling to move past it. Not just dangerous . . . disastrous.

You can recruit all the talent you want. You can win the social media game. You can be the cool school. But if you don’t foster, cultivate, and develop toughness at the line of scrimmage and play solid defense you simply can’t be good at football. Many programs just don’t get it
