Fraudulent Voter Registration or Submission: Submitting materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent voter registration applications; or depriving/deceiving residents of a fair election process through procurement of false registrations.52 U.S.C. § 20511(1).
-Fine (per Title 18 U.S.C., up to $250,000 for individuals) and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.
Depriving or Defrauding a Fair Election Process:
Knowingly depriving, defrauding, or attempting to defraud residents of a fair election by procuring/submitting false voter information, fraudulent ballots, or tampering with tabulation.52 U.S.C. § 20511(2).
-Fine (per Title 18 U.S.C., up to $250,000) and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.
False Information in Registering or Voting:
Giving false information (e.g., name, address) to establish eligibility to register or vote; conspiring to encourage false registration or illegal voting; paying/offering payment for registration or voting.52 U.S.C. § 10307(c).
- Fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.
Voting More Than Once:
Intentionally voting multiple times in a federal election.52 U.S.C. § 10307(e).
- Fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.
Failure to Permit or Tabulate Valid Votes:
Under color of law, refusing to allow qualified voters to cast ballots or failing to count valid votes. 52 U.S.C. § 10307(a).
- Fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.
Conspiracy Against Rights:
Conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate someone in exercising their right to vote (e.g., voter suppression or fraud schemes).18 U.S.C. § 241.
- Fine (up to $250,000) and/or imprisonment up to 10 years; if bodily injury results, up to life imprisonment.
Deprivation of Rights:
Under Color of Law Willfully depriving someone of voting rights while acting under authority (e.g., election officials tampering with ballots).18 U.S.C. § 242.
-Fine (up to $250,000) and/or imprisonment up to 1 year (misdemeanor); up to 10 years if bodily injury; life if death results.
Campaign Finance Violations (e.g., Illegal Contributions):
Exceeding contribution limits, misrepresenting campaign authority, or soliciting donations improperly in federal elections. 52 U.S.C. §§ 30116, 30118, etc. (Federal Election Campaign Act).
- Fine (up to $50,000 or more) and/or imprisonment up to 5 years for serious violations; lesser offenses up to 2 years.
