I managed to nab a proof copy of
@grahnort’s new novel, Frankie, and although it’s not out till the 12th of September, I really can’t contain myself till then. I had to tell you about it now!
I hate reducing novels to their plot, so I won’t: I read for the writing; the characters; the life of the page, and what lies behind. And although the fact that Graham Norton is a brilliant television presenter is irrelevant to his tenderness and gentle depths as a writer, what does connect him as novelist and tv host is the genuine curiosity he has for people, his searching kindness, and a genius for storytelling. All his novels have shown this, but this one’s special. I loved Frankie so much. I couldn’t stop reading it, but feel bereft now I’ve finished.
