Since there appears to be a deliberate effort to misrepresent my statement, let me clarify.
I said that one outcome of higher fuel prices is to discourage unnecessary consumption, particularly during periods of global energy uncertainty. This is not a controversial opinion; it is a basic economic reality. When a scarce resource becomes more expensive, people tend to use it more carefully.
My remarks were made in the context of a global energy crisis, geopolitical tensions, and uncertainty surrounding major oil supply routes. They were not directed at ordinary citizens struggling with inflation, nor were they intended to justify hardship.
Of course high fuel prices create difficulties for families and businesses, and governments must continue working to provide relief wherever possible. But it is equally true that during periods of supply uncertainty, nations around the world encourage conservation and responsible energy use.
Unfortunately, some individuals have chosen to ignore the context and circulate a distorted version of my comments. I stand by what I actually said: in times of energy stress, reducing waste and using resources responsibly is in the national interest.
Those questioning my education should spend less time manufacturing outrage and more time understanding the global energy situation before commenting on it.
