Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live. Do not try to change people; they are only messengers telling you who you are. Revalue yourself and they will confirm the change.

Some (very few) creators do not fit in a “category/style/technique” because they embrace many categories/styles/techniques melting them all on their own category. Some creators are their own category. They are known also as: Artists.

visual art is a visual language; if it isn’t seen, it may as well not exist. this is why i’m grateful to the galleries taking real financial risk and doing the work for the benefit of the whole space. visibility is a must. i indeed can’t wait for lindy institutions to take a deeper interest in digital/onchain art; that’s when we’ll confirm this ecosystem has real, long-term cultural weight. as for the art basel curation, i get it. curation is judgment, and the judgment may carry biases that do not align with our own. but the best way to influence curation over time is to participate, do the work, share the art you believe in, and offer real alternatives. for zero 10, i would have included a few exceptional artists who aren’t full consensus, as they would have made the exhibition richer and more interesting. but this is an early experiment, and maybe taking less risk made sense this time. 🖤

basquiat's untitled elmar sold for $46.5 million this year. warhol's flowers for $35.5 million. and these are absolutely incredible prices that show the enduring value of important art. but here's what's interesting: both basquiat and warhol understood what we're talking about. warhol literally painted soup cans and celebrity photos. he took mass culture and elevated it by calling it art. basquiat covered his canvases with text and symbols that function exactly like memes do now: repeated motifs that build meaning through repetition and context. these artists were doing what meme creators do today just with different tools. and the art world celebrates them for it. but then dismisses current meme artists as not serious. make it make sense. the only difference is medium and time. warhol would be an nft artist today. basquiat would be posting on instagram. they understood that art needs to engage with popular culture not separate itself from it. and the prices their work commands proves that approach was correct. so why are we gatekeeping the same approach when it happens digitally. when a meme artist does what warhol did and transforms mass culture into art we should be celebrating that not dismissing it.

been thinking about this a lot lately…crypto art or digital art (however we want to call it) does not have to resemble “contemporary/traditional art” take more risks, be experimental, show what art and tech combined can create rather than shadowing past trends. bring back some fun :)))
