District heating is a great way to deliver heating to people efficiently using a variety of energy sources.
But we have work to do: currently about 60% of district heating is based on burning fossil fuels and biomass faces sustainability issues.

Exciting distributed heat/cold network solutions getting started in the USA. Including the vision to systematically replace the gas network, bit by bit!
Well written article.
We were delighted to contribute to @FRANCE24's programme on mine water heat. Harnessing heat from mine water and using it to heat homes and businesses in Britain is a sustainable, low carbon option. Here learn how it works... #heating@GarethFarr1
3/8 But how? At the mine water treatment scheme, the @CoalAuthority pumps the water out of the mine, treats it to prevent pollution, and harvests the energy with a heat pump to be sent into homes 💧🏘️

🎤Reto Michael Hummelshøj is now talking about #5GDHC at the #COOL_DH Conference.
🏘️He highlighted that one of the key aspects of #5GDHC is to have interaction with local PV production.
🎯That's exactly the aim of the @D2Grids project extension👉 bit.ly/3A7lZM5
What's up at @StwBo pilot site ? ♨️
The completion of two boreholes tapping mine water ! 🥳 The natural and low carbon energy potential of the mine water will cover more than 75 per cent of the heating and cooling needs!

Towns are ground zero, for transition. Networks for DHC help to make big steps. Get off gas. But how sustainable are they, when still depending on central high T heat sources? Industry will also need to change. Burning garbage is not good, if it can be avoided.
Every DHC solution being built must have a long term vision. That vision nearly has to be based on low T, exchanging both heat and cold, storage of thermal in both short term and over seasons, systemic optimising. Complementary to capacities of future individual buildings.
The 2nd day of the #COOL_DH Conference begun with Birger Lauersen, President @EuroheatPower sharing major findings of #EU-funded projects:
➡️#LowTemperature DH is cost competitive
➡️#wasteheat potential is large
➡️#Digitalisation empowers consumers
➡️#DHC key for RES integration
