Remarkable scene at Loch Coire an Lochain this evening. Large chunks of ice are ‘calving’ from the snow-pack and are being blown across the water surface to where my tent is pitched.
I’m half-expecting a polar bear to pop up on an ice floe and eye me up as dinner…
Arguably the best inversion I’ve ever had was on top of Ben Cleuch in the Ochils, on 13 October last year. Virtually zero wind, shorts and T-shirt weather.
Ioana was queen of Kinder Scout yesterday morning 👑
She was inspired by another woman in the hostel going out for a sunrise walk. She got the best seat in the house!

Shades of white! The old snow on the left remains quite solid will take weight, the fresher whiter snow on the right is soft and won’t hold body weight! So take care on snow near edges or cornices as it can vary in consistency. Paddy
