Gavin Newsom has STILL not declared a state of emergency, as local leaders demand. It is completely unacceptable. As governor I WILL declare a state of emergency so we can bring an end to this scandal.

本日、ジョルジャ・メローニ首相@GiorgiaMeloniと日伊首脳会談を行いました。 １月の東京での首脳会談の際に、ジョルジャからイタリア訪問のご招待をいただいており、今回、訪問を実現することができ大変嬉しく思います。 前回の会談の際に「特別な戦略的パートナー」となったイタリアとの間で、二国間及び国際場裡における両国間の更なる連携を確認しました。 特に、エネルギーを含む経済安全保障、経済関係、宇宙を含む科学技術の協力を更に促進していくことで一致しました。 今次訪問の機会に、日伊間で「宇宙協力に関する日伊共同声明」「サプライチェーン強靱化に関する協力覚書」「日本国文部科学省とイタリア大学・研究省との協力意向表明」等が発出されたことを歓迎します。 また、日本企業が参画する「メッシーナ海峡大橋建設事業」が、今後両国の経済協力を象徴する一大事業となることについても両首脳間で期待を寄せました。 更に、安全保障面では、日伊英間の次期戦闘機共同開発（GCAP）に係る連携を加速することで一致しました。 そして、中東情勢、東アジア情勢を始めとする地域情勢についても深く議論を行い、国際社会とも連携しながら、必要な外交努力を粘り強く行っていくことで一致しました。 今回の首脳会談が行われたドーリア・パンフィーリ邸は、17世紀に建造された歴史的建造物だということで、美しい建物と庭園が印象的でした。 落ち着いた雰囲気の中で、じっくりと議論を深めることができました。 ジョルジャのおもてなしに感謝いたします。 イタリアでは、仕事を頑張っていらっしゃる方に、「ボン・ラボーロ」と挨拶されると伺いました。 直訳すると、「良い仕事を」というような意味の言葉で、イタリア社会の仕事に対する真摯な想いが表れていると思います。 引き続き、ジョルジャと共に日本とイタリアの緊密な関係を深め、国際社会の諸課題に取り組み、「良い仕事」をしていきたいと思います。

Today @USDA @SecRollins and I secured a major win for animal welfare. Ridglan Farms will transfer its remaining 475 beagles out of a research breeding facility and into the care of a no-kill rescue, where they can begin the path to adoption. Thank you, @LaraLeaTrump, for championing this issue. We are also launching a new @NIH office, ORIVA, to speed the transition away from animal testing and toward modern, human-based science. We will keep fighting for humane treatment of animals, better science, and accountability.

I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.
