Today, my lab partner and I synthesized our own methyl orange indicator, added an acid and then used a liquid column to separate the colors!!!

I did it for chemical quantities and stoich, and l think I'll do it for gas laws but I'm not there yet. @jonbergmann has great info on how to do this! I have a start on gases b/c I did menus last year. I need to flesh it out to full unit. Check this out: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

We don’t eat iron nails, or chunks of explosive sodium metal, or copper pennies. We consume iron ions, sodium ions, and copper ions.
I think I want to highlight this difference as a phenomenon for atoms and the periodic table.

Chemical "magic" you can do at home. It works well on filter paper or a coffee filter. Printer paper can be used but the colours are less intense and the colour change is more subtle. #KitchenChemistry x.com/AlchemistAngus/status/…
