My first paper—with @AC_Doherty and Robin Harper—is now out in PRX Quantum! More to come soon :)
A protocol to characterize device performance in quantum error correction promises to improve experiments by exploiting information about the noise. @evanhockings @AC_Doherty go.aps.org/3QUiUbH

Been having lots of fun here in Benasque! thanks to the organisers for a great workshop, but i refuse to repost the much less flattering photo of me at the panel this morning!
Back from a nice weekend full of activities! @AC_Doherty talks now about protected superconducting qubits.

A reminder that we have an opening at Sydney for someone looking to start a research group in quantum theory. It's "level B/C" which roughly means tenure track in North American parlance. Contact me or @BartlettQuantum for info usyd.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/U…

Do you know about the fascinating mathematical ideas behind post-quantum cryptography? I wrote about how Australia should be training more people with deep mathematical skills for PQC: Mind-bending maths could stop quantum hackers, but few understand it theconversation.com/mind-ben…

Congrats to @psiquantum! I am biased but this is very exciting to me. Particularly the "next generation technologies" for sources, switches, delays, detectors, and fiber-to-chip coupling. Photonic quantum computing still in the race! arxiv.org/abs/2404.17570

In fault-tolerant quantum computers, physical circuits implement encoded logical operations. Typically, the bulk of these physical circuits are syndrome extraction circuits, such as this one for the surface code. This makes them a key target for noise characterisation!

Belated congratulations to Cory Aitchison on his first paper and Gates Scholarship to do his PhD at Cambridge. @DomJWilliamson explains our work in this thread
I'm sure that, like me, you have wondered what happens to boundaries and defects in a topological code that has no string operators? In a new work, we explore this question for the cubic code: arxiv.org/abs/2308.00138 Check out this table summarizing open boundary encodings.
