We've seen the same phenomenon happen to Japanese immigrants in Brazil for the last century too. Basically, the men intermarry at a much higher rate because the women are so picky they'd rather remain single forever than settle for poor Brazilian men.

In reality, AsAm intermarriage discrepancies coincide perfectly with income, Japan being the wealthiest, and Laos the poorest.
