I used b-splines for all of the cables in this model. The one selected is a set of profile circles extruded/deformed along one long b-spline. It's remarkably easy to get into place and look good at the same time.
NURBS curves (b-splines) are still my favorite spline type. You'll almost always get natural-looking curves out of them. Bezier curves can be useful, but are also really annoying to edit and harder to make the curves look natural.
