ALT Karen Middleton, CEO of CSP said: ‘While we welcome the launch of Long Covid services for children, as an overall funding package this falls woefully short of what Long Covid rehab will cost. Not least what it will take to reverse years of under-resourcing and underfunding rehabilitation services. Instead of throwing cash at the latest problem, we need a rehab revolution so that patients’ road to recovery is no longer a postcode lottery where they can only access services too late – or not at all. Today’s patchy provision is a scandal that ruins lives, keeping people out of work and depriving them of their independence, while bringing ever-greater costs for the NHS and social care. Only by properly resourcing rehabilitation, with fully staffed teams in communities where patients can access them, can we deliver a healthcare system that helps people not just live but live well. If the government fails to seize this opportunity for reform, it is the patients who will bear the true cost'
