All coaches agree that Mental Resilience separates athletes and teams yet spend the vast majority of the time working on/teaching the tech & tact and hope their young athletes just figure it out. Hope is not a strategy.
Discipline isn’t punishment. Discipline is putting your future self first. Discipline today shows that you’re more concerned about future growth than today’s comfort.
Daily discipline makes us stronger for tomorrow. Otherwise, we weaken each day until we break.
How much we do when we don’t feel like it, both mentally and physically, will determine our level of success. FYI, a lot of the time we won’t feel like it. @GAShotCoach@APositiveCoach@GaBballAcademy
Kids, you can’t outperform poor nutrition, poor sleep, and even poor relationships.
Those naturally talented & athletic may fool themselves thinking they can get away with it in the short-term but it will eventually stifle their level of growth & success.
@GAShotCoach
Our success is NOT a result of motivation or confidence but from the environment & environmental cues in which we surround ourselves.
Want to eat better? Get the crap out that prevents it. Want to sleep more & better? Get screens out of the room?
Rocket science? Nope.
It’s not the event or action that messes us up but rather how we think about it.
We have the CHOICE to see something, to think about it as good, bad, indifferent or whatever.
How we think about it can affect us immediately and into the future more than the event.
When we “like” a flower we pick it to use for our short-term, personal gratification. When we “love” it, we water it everyday and provide all it needs to flourish & thrive to be the best it can be not just for ourselves but for others for as long as possible. @APositiveCoach
Parents: Is it Difficult or Dangerous?
If it’s dangerous (physical, emotional, mental abuse), then step in.
If it’s simply difficult, then allow your child to work through it (with your help IF ASKED). This will build resilience and strengthen them for the next challenge.
A kid doesn’t have to have the best equipment, the best environment, be on the best teams, have the “best” coaches, the “best” school, the best social media, etc in order to be the best.
But, they must give their best consistently with whatever, wherever, & whenever to even…
We don’t get sick, upset, stressed, anxious, etc, by what goes in but rather what stays inside us.
Better managing our thoughts & feelings, how we perceive a thing, will determine how we live.
The Power of Choice (of thought or action) can’t be taken from us. Use it wisely.
Hey! Remember, you don’t have to turn it into something. You don’t have to let it bother you.
Better manage your thoughts, feelings & emotions. CHOOSE to be better, to do better, to be stronger, to rise above.
@APositiveCoach@GAShotCoach
When sh!t happens, things get extremely hard, challenging, stressful. Do you quickly fold like a cheap beach chair? Or, do you say “I’m a competitor and will give everything I’ve got until I get where I want to be or even if I don’t I’ll be even stronger & a better person and…
Kids, stay on a path of mediocrity and you’ll continue to live an unfulfilling life.
Stay curious, stay creative, stay active, stay true to your high standards and you’ll stay on the path to your personal best and excellence in all that you do.
Most inefficient shooters don’t have an effort problem. Typically, the worse they game shoot the more shots they get up in practice.
What they have is dysfunctional movements that they continually repeat.
Doing more of the same = getting more of the same.
Doing Smart Hard
We gotta work the “Gap.”
There is a space, time, a gap between when we make the decision to work towards “greatness” and finally realizing our goal.
Most want it instantly and get frustrated and give up when it isn’t. Hate to tell ya but it’s gonna be ugly for a while until…
“Nothing great was ever built by someone who had to be talked into building it.”
Kids that have to be asked to workout, that have to be hounded to do what’s required, will never be great. @GBACoach@APositiveCoach@GaBballAcademy
We can’t “forgive and forget” yet we can forgive and remember differently. Not possible to forget yet it is absolutely possible to remember differently which allows us to move on.
Forgiveness isn’t condoning bad behavior. Forgiveness is an act of strength and bravery.
If you’re not CURIOUS about learning how to work differently to learn quicker AND transfer to games then you’ll always be mediocre at best. The best at anything were first curious and stay curious. CURIOSITY is the first step to learning. Do SMART Hard.
