Amazing edge-view of a sprite from
@Space_Station by astronaut Matthew Dominick. This excerpt shows a sprite captured at the horizon edge during a nighttime pass over southeast Asia. This sprite reaches approximately 60 kilometer altitudes, which is in the accepted range of 35-90 kilometers for sprites (the visible edge-on atmosphere is about 120 kilometers). There is a blue-to-red emission transition at about 20 kilometers. The very base of the blue is about 5-8 kilometers.
