Tonight, as I left the clinic late, I saw the cleaning staff who quietly refresh every exam room, who organize and prepare each space with care. We often don’t see them, but their work is vital. Thank you, truly, for all you do. ❤️

New New New ❗️ Do cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) worsen outcomes in alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH)? We analyzed 936 hospitalized patients with AH across 14 countries (2015–2024). #LiverTwitter #Hepatology #ALD #AASLD Hepatology. 2026. DOI: 10.1097/HEP.0000000000001780

✅ 46.6% had ≥1 CMRF ❌ CMRFs were NOT independently associated with mortality ⚠️ Independent predictors of death included age, alcohol intake, MELD score, and ACLF grade 2–3 📉

Very exciting time for the institute!
Can’t wait for the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health imaging center to open later this year. Will be like no other.

My colleague, @juanpabloarab, talks to Isabella Cueto of @statnews about Metabolic dysfunction and alcohol-associated liver disease, or #MetALD. #livertwitter
Replying to @statnews
One of many troubling things is that liver disease can go undetected for years. It's often asymptomatic early on. And the U.S. currently doesn't have robust systems for screening high-risk people before things devolve. Much more, here: statnews.com/2026/05/13/live…

The Family of ASRG_Liver 🩵🫶🏻🙌🏻
It is so hard to find research and career mentorship in the same place (or at all). @juanpabloarab has provided that for so many of us, myself included. We have also formed fantastic friendships with each other along the way. Full of ❤️ and forever grateful.

Digestive diseases week 2026 • Adding NAC to corticosteroids did NOT improve short- or intermediate-term mortality 🙅 • No meaningful reduction in HRS/ARF or major adverse liver outcomes vs steroids alone Time to rethink routine NAC use in severe AH? #MedX @DDWMeeting

Watching @OmarAdnanA 🏹 his excellent posters today. He is not yet in residency and has multiple posters at DDW, and an oral. Also, he is just a great person, like the rest of @juanpabloarab 's super-talented mentees. This group is seriously inspiring @ASRG_Liver @VCU_Liver 👏

Alcohol is a carcinogen. Patients with alcohol liver disease (ALD) have higher cancer risk. A large meta-analysis shows >2x increased risk of de novo malignancies in ALD patients after liver transplantation. 👉 We need systematic, intensified cancer surveillance.
