ATF and the Hawaii Department of Law Enforcement unveiled a new NIBIN site in Honolulu this week, which is named after Maui Police Officer Suzanne O, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last year. State and local law enforcement partners use ballistic intelligence information from #NIBIN, the only program of its kind, to uncover leads that solve violent gun crime investigations more quickly. On Tuesday, the Memphis Safe Task Force made 42 arrests and seized eight firearms from criminals. The operation has now reached a major milestone, with more than 10,000 total arrests and 1,700 firearms recovered from prohibited persons since it began in September 2025. #WeAreATF @ATFNashville

A Homeland Security Task Force investigation led to the indictment of 26 alleged leaders, members and associates of the Trinitarios, a violent transnational criminal organization, on federal racketeering (RICO) conspiracy and drug trafficking charges in connection with five murders and 19 attempted murders. Since the original serial number and markings already meet statutory and regulatory requirements, this eliminates duplicative markings. Five Atlanta men were charged with allegedly trafficking of hundreds of stolen firearms to the Caribbean. A multi-agency investigation conducted by @ATFAtlanta, @HSI_HQ, @BISgov, @USPIS_HQ, and @Atlanta_Police, uncovered an extensive operation where the defendants were breaking into vehicles and stealing guns to source firearms to be smuggled overseas. ATF’s Forensic Crime Gun Intelligence Laboratory is breaking new ground by specializing in the recovery of DNA from fired cartridge cases. While NIBIN has long linked shooting scenes across jurisdictions, new techniques created by ATF’s forensic biologists extract DNA and generate investigative leads through CODIS. Identifying persons of interest and connecting crimes, even across different firearms, is a powerful fusion of NIBIN and DNA and is a major advancement in solving violent gun crime. At full capacity, the lab will be able to analyze DNA from approximately 12,000 cartridge cases per year. ATF is hiring forensic biologists to join the fight against violent crime! A Florida man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for attempted murder of ATF Special Agents. John Caleb Allen, 26, fired at the agents approximately 14 times when they attempted to serve a search warrant. #ICYMI: Bobby Brandon Galvan was convicted by a federal jury in Del Rio on firearms trafficking and straw purchasing charges connected to the La Nueva Familia Michoacana cartel. In this significant case, Galvan bought 24 AK-47-style rifles and trafficked them to the cartel in Mexico. This marks one of the first jury trial convictions under the new federal firearms trafficking statute, 18 USC 933. The investigation was led by @ATFHou as part of #HSTF.
