Robert Roy Vincent, 36, Billings, was sentenced more than two years in federal prison. In April 2024 law enforcement in Yellowstone County received a tip that Vincent was selling fentanyl in Billings; he was already wanted by police for a number of outstanding warrants. Officers obtained a search warrant for Vincent’s CashApp profile and learned he had received $4,800 from his partner between March and April 2024. The CashApp data included a transaction from a UPS store in California on April 9, 2024. Investigators contacted the UPS store and learned Vincent had mailed a package to his partner’s home in Billings. Law enforcement intercepted the package and found it contained approximately 2,000 fentanyl pills. This case was investigated by ATF, DEA and Billings Police Department. ATF is proposing to allow individuals who make NFA firearms by altering existing firearms to use the original manufacturer’s markings instead of adding redundant ones. Since the original serial number and markings already meet statutory and regulatory requirements, this eliminates duplicative markings. The proposal codifies ATF’s prior variance practice for consistent, clear guidance. Read the proposal and comment at federalregister.gov/document…. #NewEra

Antonio Deray Darnell, 36 and Gabriel Angel Sanchez, 32, were sentenced to 30 years in the @Colorado_DOC after a joint investigation with @ATF_Denver and Garden City, Colorado Police Department. The duo committed multiple robberies and theft by targeting cash-couriers making scheduled pickups at businesses across the Front Range throughout the summer of 2023. In February, a Weld County jury convicted both defendants of three counts of robbery, four counts of theft, and one count of attempted theft. In total, the defendants stole more than $116,000 during the five incidents. @ATF_Denver incredibly grateful for everyone who assisted in this investigation, including the @WeldCountyDA for their willingness to dedicate the immense time and resources required to secure this successful prosecution and protect our communities. ATF’s Forensic Crime Gun Intelligence Laboratory is breaking new ground by specializing in the recovery of DNA from fired cartridge cases. While NIBIN has long linked shooting scenes across jurisdictions, new techniques created by ATF’s forensic biologists extract DNA and generate investigative leads through CODIS. Identifying persons of interest and connecting crimes, even across different firearms, is a powerful fusion of NIBIN and DNA and is a major advancement in solving violent gun crime. At full capacity, the lab will be able to analyze DNA from approximately 12,000 cartridge cases per year. ATF is hiring forensic biologists to join the fight against violent crime! Ryan Christopher Williams, 47, East Helena, has been sentenced to five years of probation and community service. In May of 2025 he drove past a high school student, turned around, and cut them off causing them to stop at an intersection. He then got out of his car, confronted the high school student and pointed a firearm at the student. He chastised the student for driving too fast and left after the student apologized. Williams was later contacted by law enforcement and confirmed he was involved in the incident and armed at the time but denied pointing a firearm at the student. Law enforcement located William's firearm which matched the description of the firearm the student provided. See the full news release at justice.gov/usao-mt/pr/east-…

ATF is proposing a technical update to amend the language in its subset of regulations under the Arms Export Control Act to match the terminology already used in the State Department’s U.S. Munitions List. Aligning these definitions would reduce ambiguity for Federal Firearms Licensees, Federal Explosives Licensees, and defense‑industry stakeholders. ATF is proposing to eliminate the requirement that NFA applicants send a copy of their application and Responsible Person Questionnaire (ATF Form 5320.23) to their local Chief Law Enforcement Officer. This longstanding requirement has faced repeated legal challenges and has not delivered meaningful public safety benefits. The change would simplify the process for law-abiding applicants. Across America, violent crime is down, with 2025 marking the largest single-year percentage decline on record. Behind those numbers is investigative work. ATF turns crime guns into actionable intelligence, generating leads that help law enforcement identify shooters, dismantle trafficking networks, and stop the next violent act before it happens. That’s our mission: To relentlessly focus on violent criminals while protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens by safeguarding lawful commerce. Michael Austin Ford, 60, West Valley City, Utah, was sentenced five years in federal prison for setting a school bus on fire. In February 2022 he was accused of setting a bus on fire that had 42 children inside and did so while driving in traffic, but the charge was dismissed as part of his plea agreement. In April of 2023, he was captured on video, despite having tampered with the video surveillance system in the days prior, intentionally lighting a school bus on fire while driving. We commend our partners at the @UtahDPS State Fire Marshal's Office for their incredible work on this investigation. See full news release below.
