The current discourse surrounding child sexual violence is disturbing. We cannot normalize victim blaming. The facts remain: 📍 The age of consent is 18. 📍 Abuse is never the child’s fault. 📍 Accountability must be absolute. We stand for the protection of every child.

"...corruption under [the] dictatorship was not just about stolen money, but was deeply intertwined with torture, sexual violence, enforced disappearances, and everyday suffering..." We cannot agree more!
Through our membership of the Global Civil Society Coalition for the UNCAC - WAVE Gambia is honoured to be participating in the 11th Conference of States Parties (CoSP 11) to the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in Doha, Qatar 🇬🇲🇶🇦🌍 At CoSP 11, WAVE is amplifying the voices of survivors from The Gambia, highlighting how corruption under dictatorship was not just about stolen money, but was deeply intertwined with torture, sexual violence, enforced disappearances and everyday suffering. Under our Human Rights and Governance Pillar, we engage in critical discussions on how recovered and frozen assets can and must be linked to reparations, victim support and psychosocial healing—not just infrastructure and budgets. For The Gambia’s ongoing transitional justice process, this means: * Stronger advocacy to ensure that any recovered assets linked to past abuses contribute directly to TRRC-related reparations and survivor support. * Positioning survivors and victim‑led organisations at the centre of conversations on asset recovery, accountability and justice. * Bringing home global lessons on using anti‑corruption, sanctions and asset recovery as tools for meaningful reparations and non‑recurrence. Going forward, WAVE Gambia will also engage with the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism, working with The Gambia government and other stakeholders to: * Support transparent, inclusive reviews of The Gambia’s UNCAC implementation. * Promote survivor‑sensitive approaches to asset recovery and use of public resources. * Ensure that anti‑corruption efforts and transitional justice move together rather than in parallel. WAVE will continue to work with survivors, partners and policymakers to translate these global commitments into concrete gains for victims in The Gambia. ✊🏽

This week we received news of the passing away of 3 victims of Jammeh-era #HumanRightsViolations 💔😭. It is also very sad that we continue to face delayed processes, inadequate resources, & what appears to be diminishing political will. @Gambia_MOJ @PostTRRC_Gambia @VRCGambia
