Hot #offthepress: The #BRICS before and after the Summit in #Russia An alternative, global intergovernmental body, such as BRICS, inherently gives countries of the Global South the opportunity to coordinate on global issues and brings them to the table of decision-makers. Beyond the meaty economic and demographic shifts on their side, belonging to a group with considerable international representativeness can be seen as a status symbol in itself, and the BRICS can thus be considered as a decisive prestige factor in global politics. Creating synergies between the goals of the UN’s Pact for the Future and those of the BRICS group could be a possible approach for the West for constructive engagement with the BRICS. library.fes.de/pdf-files/int… Thank you @fes_russia and @FESonline

Putin, speaking to Western journalists: “We are, of course, ready and willing to reach an agreement with #Ukraine through peaceful means, based on the framework we discussed at our meeting with President Trump in Anchorage. #Russia agrees to the compromises we discussed in Anchorage. The Ukrainian side must also agree to them. Then the conflict will quickly come to an end.”

VIDEO | Saint Petersburg, Russia: When asked about the evolving dynamics between Moscow and New Delhi while the world is watching very closely as he would be travelling to India for BRICS Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin told PTI CEO and Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi: "You gave the description yourself and it is true, we enjoy special privileged strategic partnership, that is how I characterise this relationship, it did not occur yesterday or 1 or 5 years ago, this is something we have been working upon for decades, back in 1947, when the Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with Indian Republic, we have been doing everything to support the establishment of a new state, a new independent state, I'm glad to say that, thanks to the hard work and the talent of the Indian people, India has made great, and important achievements in its development. All those gathered here must know that India is one of the leading economies of the world, that shows the highest rate of economic growth, this is the result of hard work that the government has been doing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi... This rate of development has been demonstrated by India while the strategies are implemented, formulated by Modi, as the head of the government of India. We are engaged in a lot of joint efforts, we hope that in upcoming years, we will reach USD 100 billion in mutual trade... We have all the foundations to work more actively and to reach more ambitious goals, and we are not only talking about our plans in energy, including nuclear energy, new platforms will emerge... We have one of the largest investment projects into the Indian economy... Everyone knows that India is very active in pharmaceutical industry, and our economic operators are ready to propose a lot of interesting projects... We have already outlined long perspective plans that are of interest both for India and Russia." Responding to the question of India-Russia relations in the redrawn geopolitical landscape, Russian President Vladimir Putin told, "I don't think this is a case. We are glad that India is developing its relations with all the countries, it's a great country, a large economy, the largest democracy, it is only natural that it develops economy in accordance with its interest with those countries that it deems necessary. Another thing is the US is trying to put pressure on India in some matters, for example, when it comes to cooperation with Russia. Everyone understands that putting pressure on Narendra Modi is detrimental for international relations, and for bilateral relations, doesn't matter from where this pressure comes from. We don't see any negative consequences... As of today, no serious repercussions emanating from the state of affairs, we are developing our ties with India, we deem India to be a reliable partner." It didn’t work out for Germany today. Well… But I’m delighted that Central Asia will once again have a voice on the UN Security Council for the first time in 10 years. And for Kyrgyzstan, this is a historic first. Congratulations! 🇰🇬 news.un.org/en/story/2026/06…

I have the deepest respect for the German people. I spent both winters and summers there growing up, and have tremendous admiration for the country. But its foreign policy has been nothing short of an embarrassing disaster as of late. From its support for the genocide in Gaza, ostensibly to "make up" for its conduct of another genocide (!?!), to its handling of the Iran file, to its recent direct and blatant attack and undermining of international law and the UN Charter. As a result, I am not surprised in the least that Germany lost its bid for a UNSC elected seat, despite being the second-largest financial contributor to the UN and for its leadership role negotiating the Pact of the Future. In fact, it is justice that Germany lost. Hopefully, it will prompt some serious rethinking in Berlin. The world will be better off if Germany goes back to the country it was in 2003, when it rightfully stood up for international law and opposed the invasion of Iraq. dw.com/en/un-security-counci…

“Its published outcomes were mostly technical, but the #Russia-#Kazakhstan agenda was sharper. Moscow sought more oil transit to China, a long nuclear role, payment and transport channels less exposed to disruption, and public confirmation of alliance ties. Kazakhstan looked to energy capacity, financing, transit income, industrial investment, logistics upgrades, and stable working channels with its largest neighbor.”
Putin’s visit to Astana offered a reminder that despite Kazakhstan’s expanding global partnerships, Russia still views energy, transit, and regional influence as central pillars of the relationship. Read more from @StephenMBland. timesca.com/putins-astana-vi…

Peskov: „"Europe is currently a party to the conflict as it is taking Ukraine’s side. Don’t forget that European weapons are being used for attacks on us, and this cannot be ignored. That said, Europe can in no way claim the role of mediator."
Europe is a party to the Ukraine conflict and cannot act as a mediator, Peskov told reporters. TASS has gathered the key statements made by the Russian presidential press secretary: vk.cc/cYi7YV

Women & Geopolitics in last week’s “A Fondo” @DeutscheWelle (Spanish). I really enjoyed discussing Putin’s visit to China, #Russia#China relations, and the emerging world order with these three fabulous women Ana Soliz de Stange, Ruth Ferrero & Úrsula Moreno. I picked up a few new perspectives too. My main point was: #Eurasia is emerging as a central arena of the new world order. Despite existing differences and asymmetries, Russia and China are united by one strategic objective: connecting the Eurasian space. In the coming decades, geopolitical power will depend not only on military or economic strength, but increasingly on control over connectivity routes — transport, technology, finance, and infrastructure. China’s strategy is: • technological sovereignty • physical connectivity through Belt & Road Initiative • financial connectivity via currencies, development banks, and payment systems Russia is pursuing a similar path on a smaller scale, developing alternative economic structures less dependent on the U.S.-led system, the North Sea Route etc. As for the EU: conflict/tensions with both Russia and China risk leaving #Europe outside the construction of Eurasia’s future security and economic architecture. Containment alone is not a strategy. Europe needs dialogue, strategic clarity, and a pragmatic recalibration of relations with both Moscow and Beijing.

Replying to @BBCWorld
At this point finding someone both Russia and the EU actually trust might be harder than ending the war itself

Quality Ukrainian analysis of the state of the war which stresses the obvious - the longer the war proceeds, the more likely is a direct conflict between Russia and NATO, with catastrophic consequences for both sides and for humanity. Not visa versa, as beneficiaries of this war want you to believe. A longer war doesn’t “provide the time for Europe to prepare”. It’s bringing us closer to the edge of the cliff beyond which there is nothing else but guaranteed mutual annihilation. t.me/stranaua/236788

I can only repeat it. We are currently in the middle of a game of chicken similar to the one in October 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis: who will back down first? I think no one will do so before we are on the verge of flying into the abyss. #RussiaUkraineWar
We are almost at the abyss. At best, the #russiaukrainewar will end shortly before mutual annihilation. In the worst case...
