Congratulations to Mr. Ryan Alexander on his commitment to Louisiana Monroe. You have been one of the most outstanding young men I have had the opportunity to instruct. Your patience and attention to detail will serve you well. From the bottom to the ⬆️

Young coaches, I’m a nobody and you shouldn’t listen to me, but here are some things I had in my phone notes from December of 2021. Like my guy @SwagnShades says hope this helps 1.Pristine lineup card (correct jersey numbers, positions, bullpen, subs, is it taped up nicely where everybody can see it or does it look like you don’t give a shit 2.Lineup construction (is it built to maximize runs, utilize matchups, reward QAB leaders, get slumping guys going) 3.Pitching rotation (bullpen management, tournament format, pitchers primary position and necessary rest etc) 4.Is everybody prepared? (Have a few extra belts, hats, or helmets just in case teenagers end up being teenagers) 5.Does my teams dynamic warmup and catch play look ready to win the first inning? 6.Is my fungo game sharp? Have I given every infielder an at em routine ball, glove side one hand lane, backhand push through, do or die pro move before game action? Have the outfielders moved around enough for their legs, eyes, and arms to be game ready? 7.Am I calling the most efficient pitch sequence to get outs in three pitches or less? 8.Am I running in the most successful running counts and do my green light guys understand what those counts are? 9.Am I making properly timed mound visits, delivering the right message, making the move to the bullpen at the appropriate time? 10.Am I making the right 1st to 3rd wave ons, making good reads to waving guys home? Etc 11.Am I giving the best cues to hitters in between pitches to set their minds at ease? 12.Is my bench engaged, are they being the best possible teammates? 13.Am I being respectful to the umpires while I’m questioning a call and defending my players? 14.Are we showing the energy we need to win however many games we have today? 15.Are we showing tough enough body language to respond immediately if we’re punched in the face early? 16.If a coach on a staff that I’d want to coach for was watching this game would he think our team is well coached?

Found this in my notes from 2020: High school baseball players with hopes of playing in college, here are some things you NEED to hear and if you’re upset by this in any way you need to humble yourself very quickly. Trust me I’m trying to help you. 1.take your jewelry off. Your chain doesn’t look cool, your earrings don’t make you look cool. You know what’s cool? NOT being a hey look at me guy. Let your game talk. Once you hit 30 homers in the big leagues, buy a chain. Until then, stay humble. 2.Stop pouting and looking at your coach if the umpire makes a questionable call. The umpire didn’t make you foul off the good pitch to hit you just missed the pitch before. Show some damn toughness. 3.The easiest way to keep you on the bench is for you to pout and not be encouraging your teammates success. Hoping somebody fails so you look better is for losers. 4.You better hit .400 if you’ve got more gear than a big leaguer up there with an elbow guard and shin guard and every gadget in the world to look important. Maybe get stronger and I promise the 72mph fastball you’re protecting yourself from isn’t going to kill you. 5.If you’re an infielder and you can’t make 9/10 routine plays, you better get two hits a game. If you can’t do either, you can’t play. If you can’t reach first base from whatever position you play, you don’t have a position. 6.If you’re an outfielder and you can’t catch a fly ball OR hit a cutoff man, you can’t play 7.If you don’t know how many outs there are you can’t play. 8.If you don’t know what the signs are, you can’t play. 9.If you know you’re not the fastest kid on the team and you get the steal sign, you better know how to get an aggressive primary lead AND how to get good jumps or you guessed it, you can’t play. 10.If you have an answer for everything because you know more than your coach, then you can sit right beside him and watch the game while the players that are coachable get a chance to play. 11.If you’re a pitcher and you think you have three pitches but can only throw one of them over the plate, you only have one pitch. Pitchers with one pitch are pretty predictable. If you can’t throw two pitches for a strike, you’re not a pitcher. 12.If you can’t diagnose and apply in-game adjustments you can’t play. 13.Being good on the field is cooler than pretending youre good on the internet. 14.If you haven’t seen the weight room in a month and can’t bench your own body weight, stop talking about college baseball. You don’t take it serious enough to make the necessary commitment to play at that level. 15.If you’re walking back to the dugout after your second K telling everybody that the pitcher sucks you’re worried about the wrong guy and you can’t play. 16.If you’re on the bench and talking about anything OTHER than the game and how to help your teammates you can’t play.

When in the minors I focused on working my ligaments; I never lifted heavy weights. Time has changed, and so has training, but if you want to become a pitcher, you should strive to learn the feel for pitching and the knowledge of what to do with the ball rather than throwing hard

So very true, their needs to be competitive divisions. The problem would be coaches trying to play in a division too high. Some teams playing in divisions too low. Take the top teams from each competitive divisions to move into bracket play. Top Div teams receive 1st rnd bye.
