Thoughts on the
#RedNote #Xiaohongshu phenomenon:
Itβs both sad and traumatizing to see that most Americans have thrown their first-world trouble over the real pain and suffering of people under another regime, the Chinese Communist Party, ridiculously, on the very issue of βCensorshipβ.
A kind reminder to these Americans, that currently more than thousands of Chinese journalists and lawyers like
#Zhangzhan are spending their lives in prison under harsh torture, for the price of fighting for
#FreedomOfSpeech in China, and millions of
#Uyghurs have been disappeared into concentration camps because of their religious belief since 2018.
What does this mean? The same complaint that brings you to RedNote have brought countless Chinese to jail.
And the very app
#RedNote you are using now is part of the state machine that white-washes the Uyghur, Tibet and Hong Kong issue, as well as silencing the entire voices of political prisoners, scholars, civil journalists, filmmakers, LGBTQ and feminists, and banning any mention of Tiananmen Massacre, Ukraine or even 3-year covid lockdown.
This is the very app that is now helping amplify
#HateSpeech towards colored people, any religion, or any kind of western values, and hailing on
#Militarism such as invasion of Taiwan.
The banning of TikTok is indeed worth disputing, but uncomparable towards THIS KIND of
#Orwelian horror that is happening on another land, within the very app you just felt curious to use.
But yes, it is indeed your chance to get a closer look into how the greatest propaganda machine is working in its full speed. Open your google translation, and try to search for Uyghur η»΄εΎε° / η»΄ζ / ζ°η, Tibet θ₯Ώθ / θζ, Taiwan ε°ζΉΎ / ζΉΎζΉΎ, and compare with the results on non-Chinese apps. Take your time to discover any mentioning of Japan or Ukraine or Russia, and compare with your own knowledge. Search for racist slangs in Chinese such as η»Ώη»Ώ or ε°Όε₯ or ι¬Όε or ζΈ―ζ― , and evaluate to what extent are these discussion allowed or even encouraged in Chinese platforms.
Talk to Chinese users on the app, talk with them about China, about CCP, about Uyghur and Tibet, about Taiwan, about racial equality and LGBTQ, about the Great Fire Wall or the VPN. Talk with them about the censorship you are facing in US.
Then switch to X and insgram in Chinese. Compare how Chinese speak about these issues differently outside of the censorship from CCP, and make judgement on how each side represents the authentic voices of Chinese.
At last, Americans, DO NOT weigh your own grumble over the pain of another group of people. But learn about the outside world. Have a look at the world you have only been reading on news, and have a look at why some of us have sacrificed our entire life for some basic values you have already lived within since born.
