This is an artist's perspective on Hockney, writing as a professional who worked under the indirect shadow of Hockney. If I was writing a postscript, I would discuss the motivations behind mass media and official support for Hockney's art. Perhaps I will come back to that in a while.

People may be interested to read my discussion of Gilbert Stuart here: spiked-online.com/2014/03/28…
Saw this great lithograph of George Washington at the Met today. It was made by a French artist, Nicolas Eustache Maurin after Gilbert Stuart’s famous portrait based on a life study of Washington from 1796. The lithograph was commissioned by Boston publisher John Doggett as part of a series depicting the first five U.S. presidents, whom contemporaries nicknamed the «American Kings» To produce the prints, the paintings were sent all the way to Paris where Maurin transferred them onto lithographic stones. A French pressman then accompanied the stones back to Boston to oversee the printing.

Unfollow and block accounts that post AI art slop. These supposed high-culture accounts trade on being aggregators of the arts but actually deplete and degrade them. They are despicable and should be shunned.
Egon Schiele, Seated Woman With Bent Knees, 1917
Community note
This is not Egon Schiele's "Seated Woman With Bent Knees" (1917). The authentic painting depicts a red-haired woman in a green top and is held at the National Gallery in Prague. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seated_Wo…

30 years ago today my first solo exhibition opened.
While compiling my archive I found an invitation to my first solo show. It is small and printed on translucent paper. It is a shame that the era of e-invitations has largely killed off the inventiveness of the printed invitation.

Out on my morning walk through Antwerp, a coin caught my eye, glinting in a blade of pure white hot sunlight. I'd forgotten Boccioni's Unique Forms of Continuity in Space ended up on the 20 cent piece. Strange that a movement which worshipped speed, machines and the future ended up as small change in hundreds of millions of pockets. Much dishonour. Europe would do well to embody such a spirit once more.

It is a really solid album with all of BOC's usual strands: trip-hop, ambient, rock, electronica, dance. It lacks longer more ambient tracks and it sounds a lot crisper and punchier than the lo-fi stuff you find in earlier releases. Overall, very good. most fans will enjoy it.
