“I went to Cambridge expecting to speak and found instead a room that would not stop asking. I have carried the questions from that afternoon with me since. Not because they were unanswerable, but because the asking itself was significant. In a room trained to solve problems with instruments, a persistent and genuine hunger kept surfacing for something the instruments cannot touch. The questions about the self, about inner completeness, about why knowledge does not produce wisdom and wealth does not produce peace, kept arriving one after another from people who had every reason to believe those questions had already been answered by the curricula they had mastered.”

The Colonial Question: Ego as The First Coloniser

Speaking on the Isha Upanishad at Oxford earlier this month, I described the ego as a coloniser whose first colony is the body itself, kept alive not out of love but out of self-interest. From the division, everything follows with the regularity of grammar. Whatever stands outside the boundary is encountered as an object; the object is assessed as material; the material is assigned a use. The river stops being a river and becomes irrigation potential, hydropower; the forest turns into timber, carbon stock, scenery, or a conservation project. None of this is greed; it is structure, which is why the ego that calls itself an environmentalist and the ego that calls itself a developer are performing one and the same operation, encountering the world as an object and assigning it a role in their own project, with only the roles differing.

7 जून को काठमांडू कलिंगा लिटरेरी फेस्टिवल 2026 में आचार्य प्रशांत को उनकी किताब 'ट्रुथ विदाउट अपोलोजी' के लिए सम्मानित किया गया। अपने ब्रिटेन प्रवास के बीच, आचार्य प्रशांत ने समारोह से ऑनलाइन जुड़ कर इस प्रतिष्ठित साहित्य अवार्ड को स्वीकार किया और समारोह को संबोधित किया। समारोह में उपस्थित प्रख्यात साहित्यकार, पद्मभूषण एवं ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार की विजेता डॉ प्रतिभा राय ने आचार्य प्रशांत को “भारत का बेटा” बुलाया। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि आज जब दुनिया भर के युवा पहचान के संकट और दिशाहीनता से जूझ रहे हैं, तब आचार्य प्रशांत उन्हें “अपने भीतर लौटने” का आह्वान कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने आचार्य प्रशांत को वर्तमान समय की एक प्रेरणादायी दार्शनिक आवाज़ बताया और कहा कि उनके विचार युवाओं को गहरे आत्मबोध और सार्थक जीवन की दिशा प्रदान कर रहे हैं। कार्यक्रम में आचार्य प्रशांत के वैश्विक प्रभाव, करोड़ों लोगों तक पहुँच, तथा पूर्वी दर्शन को विश्व मंच पर नई प्रतिष्ठा दिलाने में उनके योगदान की भी विशेष सराहना की गई।
सम्मान ग्रहण करते हुए आचार्य प्रशांत ने युवाओं को संबोधित किया और कहा, “उम्र भर भटकते रहना भी कहीं बेहतर है, गलत जगह बंध जाने से।” उन्होंने आगे कहा, “जीवन बस जाने के लिए नहीं है; बसने का काम तो एक दिन श्मशान में हो ही जाना है।” आंतरिक स्वतंत्रता और आत्मबोध पर बोलते हुए उन्होंने युवाओं से आग्रह किया कि वे भीड़ के पीछे चलने के बजाय अपने भीतर की बेचैनी को समझें और सत्य की खोज में निरंतर आगे बढ़ते रहें। यह सम्मान आचार्य प्रशांत को ऐसे समय में मिला है जब उनका ब्रिटेन प्रवास चर्चा का विषय बन गया है। एक ओर उन्होंने विश्वविख्यात कैम्ब्रिज यूनियन में ऐतिहासिक संवाद किया, तो दूसरी ओर ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी में ईशावास्य उपनिषद पर ऐतिहासिक सत्र लिया। उनके इस दौरे ने भारतीय अध्यात्म एवं वेदांत की आवाज़ को वैश्विक बौद्धिक मंचों तक पहुँचाया।
