If it pans out, cheaper obesity meds are a win for patients, esp since Medicare has been so hard to get coverage! But what about the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, Modernization Act of 2003, which excludes AOM’s from Part D coverage? @BevTchangMD @MichaelAlbertMD

Seeing the CEO of Hims/Hers, the literal pill mill for GLP ones, accusing Novo of not factoring in what was clinically best for patients is unhinged and ironic.
We are disappointed to see Novo Nordisk management misleading the public. In recent weeks, Novo Nordisk’s commercial team increasingly pressured us to control clinical standards and steer patients to Wegovy regardless of whether it was clinically best for patients. We refuse to be strong-armed by any pharmaceutical company’s anticompetitive demands that infringe on the independent decision making of providers and limit patient choice. We take our role of protecting the ability of providers and patients to control individual treatment decisions extremely seriously, and will not compromise the integrity of our platform to appease a third party or preserve a collaboration. The health and wellness of individuals always comes first. We will continue to offer access to a range of treatments, including Wegovy, to ensure providers can serve the individual needs of patients.

We reported the first long term double blind study of Semaglutide in type 1 diabetes. Semaglutide is effective in reducing weight, insulin dose and HbA1c in type 1 diabetes.
At #ADASciSessions, Shah et al. report results of an RCT of semaglutide in patients with T1DM and obesity. Read the full report: eviden.cc/43YIrGt @Drhkakturk @ADA_DiabetesPro

JJ Spaun lost 40 pounds from 2017 to 2021, dropping to 584 in the world golf ranking. Doctors told him he had Type 2 diabetes, but he kept losing weight, only to find out two years later he had Type 1 diabetes. Now, he’s a top 25 player and U.S. Open champion. What a comeback.

In a historic and unprecedented move, all of the institutions at the @NIH have signed on to and sent a letter, the Bethesda Declaration, to the new director, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, about the chaos at the NIH. This is a big deal, as it ultimately impacts all of us. It impacts the research that gets done or not done. It impacts what we know or what we will never know. Let’s see what the response will be, as the director is scheduled to testify before Congress tomorrow about the NIH’s budget. In other news, speaking of unprecedented, Bhattacharyaā€˜s boss just removed all 17 members of the CDC’s vaccine advisers, saying the group is ā€œplagued with conflicts of interest.ā€ It’s a chaotic, unprecedented time. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Yes the noise is loud, but we must continue to pay attention to what matters and stay informed and engaged! #abovethenoise

This is absolutely stunning. I covered ACIP from 1994-2011. Initially most members had Pharma disclosures, but later they moved toward inclusion of multiple members without such ties. And it was always totally transparent. How will removing expertise restore confidence? #vaccines
This is the big one: Kennedy is firing the entire #ACIP in a move he says is needed to restore confidence in vaccines. "It scares me to think of what’s ahead,ā€ Mike Osterholm of CIDRAP told me. statnews.com/2025/06/09/rfk-…

We don’t need more doctors We need more doctoring 50% of my time is spent on administrative tasks that I did not a medical degree to do
This is correct, just training more doctors won't help with the scarcity of physician labor. So why aren't we discussing ways to keep the active workforce in practice? With increasing administrative burden and decreasing reimbursement, it's no wonder more and more doctors are taking early retirement. You're burning out the established, high-quality, doctors, the ones who order fewer tests and perform fewer procedures. Be they retired or in consulting, I've never met a doctor who left clinical medicine and regretted the decision. The modern healthcare system, run by bureaucrats and administrators, takes young physicians, chews them up, destroys their will to continue practicing, and then wonders why physician labor is so scarce.

NIH appears to have stopped funding for the Diabetes Prevention Program study. This landmark trial proved diet/exercise outperforms metformin in preventing or delaying diabetes in people with prediabetes. I can’t think of anything more #MAHA in diabetes. Make it make sense.
This is analogous to tearing down historical monuments, in #science , but worse statnews.com/2025/03/17/trum… Longitudinal observational data like the #diabetes prevention program gives us the first glimpses into what might help or harm #health This is completely antithetical to #MAHA @statnews @elaineywchen
