Our Africa Director, Paulin Basinga (
@pbasinga) delivered the keynote address at
#AidExNairobi on “Redefining the Role of Philanthropy: Reshaping Humanitarian–Development Partnerships in a Changing East African Landscape.”
The Foundation joined and engaged with the incredible community of humanitarian, development, private sector, and philanthropic leaders from around the world at the two-day convening.
For decades, development conversations have often centered on how much external assistance is available. Yet countries do not transform because of aid alone. They transform when they successfully mobilize and manage all of their assets: people, institutions, entrepreneurship, innovation, trade, investment, technology and partnerships.
“What I see across Africa today: governments taking ownership of their development agendas, researchers generating world-class innovation, entrepreneurs solving local challenges, and young people embracing technology and creating new opportunities.”- Paulin.
Cooperation and partnership will be the key to ensuring that countries can be the authors of their own growth and resilience.
