The Mountain Ringlet (Erebia epiphron) is now on the wing, with the first spotted in Cumbria on the 21 May 🦋⛰️
We're asking visitors and locals in the Lake District to keep their eyes peeled for this elusive butterfly and report their sightings 👉 butterfly-conservation.org/n…

Excellent, informative and inspiring contributions from @openspacessoc's @CampaignerKate and Right2Roam's @guyshrubsole (& Imogen from the wild swimmers too) at the Hayfield Kinder Trespass weekend celebrations today.
An enjoyable day as a guest on a @Team_BMC staff walk. Lots of valuable conversation with staff full of enthusiasm for the outdoors & strong plans & ideas . A pleasure to meet NEC for Hill Walking David Matthews too. Thanks to leader & hill walking officer Josh for inviting me!
Focus on the cause not the demographics (the article is wrong in that the greatest % rise is in the 75-79 yo’s not the 18-24yo’s), and get outside and have fun. ‘Social media and map apps blamed for record rise in mountain rescue callouts’ theguardian.com/world/2025/a…

Longer spring days mean the arrival of both lambs 🐑 in the landscape and ground-nesting birds 🐣 seeking a summer home, often unseen!

Morning, welcome to Sunday. North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service has warned it’s extremely dry on our uplands and the risk of wildfire is high. So, please:
🚫 No BBQs or open fires of any kind
🚫 Take all your litter home
🚫 Dispose of cigarettes safely and fully
Thank you 🙏
Thoroughly enjoyed back-marking for excellent leader and local @ABTheAdventure on Friday, a super day out on Kinder Scout for @Team_BMC. Such a good day with a grand group of fellow hill walkers!
That trig pillar feeling 🙌
This @Team_BMC Peak Area group were lovely people to spend the day with while walking on Kinder Scout yesterday.
They took to the peat bogs very well and laughed their way across the moor.

We're heading to the High Court to protect our public access rights ✊
If the public walks a path for decades, could a brief gap due to a public health crisis remove our right to access it forever?
Tomorrow's critical case could set a bleak precedent 👇🏽 ramblers.org.uk/news/rambler…

Yesterday Environment Sec @SteveReedMP said "It’s the biodiversity and wildlife that safeguards our ecosystems to fight off animal and plant diseases, while access to our wild landscapes and green spaces helps improve mental and physical health and reduce the burden on our NHS."
I hope this recognition of the wider value of public access to the countryside will be backed by landscape usage plans incorporating encouragement & financial support for landowners & managers to provide MORE access to those areas of land they recommend are used for nature!
Latest @Team_BMC Peak Area meeting open to #PeakDistrict & surrounds based #hillwalkers#climbers & #mountaineers 7pm Fri 24th Jan at The Sir William, Grindleford. Climbing & walking access issues, news, a fascinating talk and more!
A snowy wander back into #Sheffield from High Bradfield today. Névé like snow higher up making walking a joy. Blue skies for much of the day too, rather special. Extensive patches of hard ice on paths, so glad of our microspikes again.
