I have done many overseas trips to visit and entertain our beloved troops; Bosnia , Egypt, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, & many more but the most special ones were my 4 visits to Afghanistan 3 of which were under General Natynczyk. His strength and honour precede him wherever he goes. On one occasion high in the mountains of Afghanistan he heard me singing THE THIN RED LINE as a warm up with keyboard player SAM REID. We were preparing to play a few tunes that day, no P.A. System, just two dudes, one playing a keyboard, the other, singing through the little built-in speaker of that keyboard. It was about 7am and 45 degrees Celsius, and Gen. Natynczyk was preparing to pin medals on several of our outstanding troops for their service and bravery, when suddenly, he sent a member of his staff over to ask if we would play and I would sing “as” he pinned the medals on them. It was a moment of “Canadiana” the likes of which no words can describe. FOREVER ingrained in my mind as one of THE GREAT musical moments in my 45year career. CONGRATULATIONS General on your ORDER OF CANADA, so well deserved. I am honoured to call you a friend sir.

Interesting I just listened to that track yesterday 👍❤️turned and said “ What a fantastic job John and I did on that album” so I listened to it ALL for first time in ages.
