Nice to see our work on rogue seas state made it to the @PhysRevLett 2024 collection @uommedia @FEITUniMelb @AlbeSquared @MarcelloVichi
PRL has selected 1 issue's worth of Letters from last year's 52, spanning all of our sections, to create our first annual PRL Collection of the Year 2024. Happy exploring to our readers, congratulations to authors, and thank you to referees! promo.aps.org/PRL2024 #PRLcoty2024

🚨📰 🇦🇶Happy to see this work by Noah Day on identifying the Marginal Ice Zone out in @JGROceans 🇦🇶📰🚨agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.… It was great hosting Noah at @UEAResearch while we worked on some of it

Great international collaboration 🇮🇹🇬🇧🇿🇦🇦🇶 Using the physics-based Close-Packed model we get #seaice thickness from #wave attenuation in the MIZ. The calibration parameter is universal (#Arctic and #Antarctica). The model works particularly well with swell alone 🌊🧊
Take a look at the latest paper by @AlbeSquared, @MarcelloVichi , and me! "Estimation of Antarctic sea ice thickness through observation of wave attenuation." doi.org/10.1016/j.ocemod.202…

A new study gets close to understanding where rogue waves come from how to predict them. "Our findings challenge previous thinking: that self-amplification doesn’t change the likelihood of rogue waves in the ocean," writes Alessandro Toffoli (@UniMelb). theconversation.com/rogue-wa…

Ocean waves play a critical role in the Earth system: they affect many surface exchanges and act in both atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers. Find out what happened at a recent workshop on waves and wave-coupled processes held at ECMWF ➡️ ecmwf.int/en/about/media-cen… #5thWSwaves

⛴️A @UniMelb expedition to the southernmost waters encircling Antarctica has discovered that wind drives the formation of colossal rogue waves, and that these unpredictable waves occur more frequently than scientists had previously thought scimex.org/newsfeed/giant-ro…
