Today #Lithuania marks the Day of Mourning & Hope – 06/14/1941, when brutal soviet regime began the mass deportations of people of #Lithuania 🇱🇹. No family was untouched, including those of our local colleagues. We remember & never forget. #UKinLT

“ […] when Baltic States are being tested, Europe as a whole is being tested.” Couldn’t have been said better.
I’m in Vilnius to send a clear message: Europe stands in full solidarity and unity with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. And we are stepping up our support. Because when Baltic States are being tested, Europe as a whole is being tested.

Today, together with the President of Finland, @alexstubb visited the 🇱🇹 border with Belarus. Strengthening the protection & defense of the external borders of the EU & NATO is one of the highest priorities for Lithuania. Proud that we likely have the best-protected external border in the EU. Note the fruitful cooperation with Finland for 30 years. 🇱🇹 has essentially adopted the 🇫🇮 border protection model. Kiitos, Suomi!

The Russians want Ukraine’s permission to hold their parade – so they can safely take to the square for an hour once a year, and then go back to killing *our* people and waging war. The Russians are already talking about strikes after May 9. A strange and certainly twisted logic from the Russian leadership. There are also messages from some states close to Russia that their representatives intend to be in Moscow. An odd desire at a time like this. We do not recommend it.

To members of the media: Please pay close attention to the ongoing Russian campaign of terror in Ukraine. Over the course of just over 24 hours, Russian strikes have claimed numerous civilian lives: - 7 people in Merefa (just outside Kharkiv) yesterday - 5 people in Poltava today (double tap targeted and killed firefighters) - 5 people in Kramatorsk - 12 people in Zaporizhzhia - 4 people in Dnipro just now All of these numbers still may update, unfortunately, since doctors are fighting for the life's of the injured. These strikes were intentionally launched on busy city streets in broad daylight to maximize casualties. These victims deserve to be remembered. This must be reported accurately, as a coordinated campaign of terror and murder, rather than isolated incidents that leave room for excuses.

When you’re in charge of the most powerful military in the world, your words matter. Recklessly saying “no quarter” — which is a violation of the laws of war — is one of many reasons Pete Hegseth is not qualified to be Secretary of Defense.
MARK KELLY: Do you stand by your statement of 'no mercy, no quarter'? HEGSETH: We have untied the hands of our warfighters. We fight to win and we follow the law KELLY: Okay, so you're not clarifying your statement

40 years after the Chornobyl disaster, Russia is putting the world at risk once again. From Zaporizhzhia to Chornobyl and Astravets, Russia is weaponizing nuclear energy - through occupation, attacks, and damage to nuclear facilities. Stronger international action is urgently needed. We must not allow history to repeat itself. Sanction Rosatom. 📷Reuters / Scanpix

Forty years ago, the world faced one of the largest nuclear disasters – the fourth reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded. A significant amount of radioactive material was released. Hundreds of thousands of people have been dealing with the consequences of that tragedy for years. To contain the radiation, a sarcophagus was built over the destroyed reactor. Later, more than 40 countries enclosed it with the New Safe Confinement to prevent further disasters. These two structures are what protect against radioactive releases and contamination. Their maintenance and protection are in everyone’s interest. But through its war, Russia is once again bringing the world to the brink of a man-made disaster – Russian-Iranian “shaheds” regularly fly over the plant, and one of them struck the confinement last year. The world must not allow this nuclear terrorism to continue, and the best way is to force Russia to stop its reckless attacks. We remember everyone who gave their lives while dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy. May all the victims of the Chornobyl disaster rest in peace. @United24media
