Last month, I was honoured to give the annual LGBTQ History Month lecture @KelloggOx, where I talked about monsters in ancient Greek literature, my own experiences of being transgender in public, and what connects the two! Watch my talk here youtube.com/watch?v=0UYoO717…

It's been a Very Long Week with a conference paper AND a 1st-year undergraduate lecture (for ~100 students across all humanities subjects). The only overlaps between the two: Ursula K. Le Guin, and my dubious attempts at graphic design.

she looks smug bc she has just realised she can force checkmate in 4 moves by plonking the knight on f6 photo taken by Satish Gaekwad

I have a chess tournament this Saturday (everyone say good luck Alexandra!) and I'm revising rook and pawn endings, because I'm Bad At Them. Here, Black has made a mess of things - how can White (to play) escape with a draw? (ty @IglesiasYosha for showing me this!)

Excitedly preparing my lecture for @wadhamoxford Classics Summer School tomorrow! I'm talking about Sophocles' Antigone and exploring how audiences, ancient and modern, have responded to her (including postcolonial and transgender adaptations!). (1/2)

Reminder that I regularly give talks on ancient-world-related subjects in schools, and these are **free** for state schools and schools without a long history of teaching Greek or Latin - teachers and students are welcome to DM!📚 (2/2)

VERY excited to talk about Pasiphae, trans theory, and @susanstryker's "My Words To Victor Frankenstein..." at this year's Celtic Conference in Classics! Part of the excellent Queering the Ancient Body panel convened by @mostly_voids and Sarah Cullinan Herring.

See here's the thing, an academic I know wrote a book chapter on Tacitus and the Fire of Rome titled "Burn baby burn (disco in Furneaux)" and I think about this title at least once per week.

didn’t really clock that these books were adjacent on my bookcase until a good friend saw them and said “I’m getting kinda. mixed messages about what I’m meant to do with these bones.”

lots of good suggestions in the comments but it feels like everyone’s sleeping on this modern classic

I need more fictional books with original characters set in ancient Rome or Greece. I love myth retellings! But I also want something new.
