Ā£70m for Van Hecke (with one year on his deal), Ā£100m for Anderson…. Great players, both of them. But Rogers price going up Ā£5m an hour at the moment. #avfc

Also what’s been important to Villa’s success to date (and the bit that *always* gets overlooked when people talk about our business) is that since Grealish we’ve managed to avoid selling our top players. That’s been important in our journey. We’re not always rebuilding. #avfc

Think there’s a wider point here also. We do this every summer. Remember being told constantly that Grealish wouldn’t go (even though the journalists in the know kept strongly hinting he would). They were briefing that Ramsey was effectively for sale 18 months.
People need to vent their frustration on someone else. Do we want Jacob to only write Villa exclusives when it's positive?šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Keep up the great work @J_Tanswell! We might not like this story, but atleast we can look past all the bs rumours and get some real insightšŸ‘ #avfc

Things don’t always come to fruition. But there’s a (very) large chance that Villa need a sale, it’s true for lots of reasons that Rogers is our most saleable asset, and that he might not be against leaving. Some people are fishing for engagement. But some certainly aren’t.

Just FYI #avfc
Replying to @Alex_Berwick
Yes, that's right: any players brought into 'List A' squad in UEFA comps have to be cheaper, in sense you've outlined, than those they replace Applied in 2025-26 and will in 2026-27 if Football Earnings result is negative (i.e. they make a loss). So will very likely apply again

So take Sancho. Say we save £200k a week wages. Can replace with someone on £190k a week. But only if they are a loan or a free transfer. If we pay a £30m fee, will have to be on less than £100k a week etc. Just something to be aware of. #avfc

And although Barrenechea / Dobbin / Illing Jr etc would help us reduce our ā€˜Football Earnings Rule’ loss, they don’t actually help within any profit or saving made in the make up of the ā€˜main’ squad. Because they weren’t in the ā€˜main’ squad. #avfc

We don’t talk about Rashford’s PSG performance enough btw. Just on another planet. He made that night possible. And fair play to Ollie.
So he wasn’t jealous and having a paddy or whatever else it was that Villa Twitter was spreading at the time because he joked he was fuming, funny that. He’s got to be our most misjudged player when it comes to personality.

Reminder: Aston Villa limited to €60m (Ā£52m) Football Earnings (i.e. UEFA's PSR) loss in 2025-26 under Settlement Agreement Villa's Football Earnings loss in 2024-25 was c.Ā£46m - but that was with Ā£70m UCL prize money. 2025-26 Europa League win generated around half that

On Rogers, look #avfc are going to have to do something. The restrictions haven’t changed. Might be that we can make it up elsewhere. But you can only sell who you have a buyer for. And there will be plenty of interest in him. He’s still underrated.

There’s always a fiction every year that #avfc can pre-plan windows. We’re not going to be in that world for a long old time. They have to be reactive to who they can raise money on, and who might be available that is better than what we have. Don’t kid yourselves otherwise.

Remember, as far as I’m aware, anyone we register for Europe has to be cheaper overall than the person they replace. So the likes of Barrenechea & Dobbin have no bearing on that at all. #avfc

This elite / non elite thing that always rumbles on is boring. Would I swap Unai for anyone? Not a chance. Maybe he is more suited to ā€˜us’. But who cares?

Beat all the 6 at least once this season. Finished above 3 of them. The other 3 spend the GDP of a small nation more than us. Got to a CL QF and lost by a tiny margin to a team who outstrip us in every metric. When we won something, it’s because we have an unfair advantage.

Couldn’t care one iota who rates Arteta more or whatever. He’s done a great job. But I do care when people aren’t judging achievements by the same metrics. That’s wild.

The Arsenal were ā€˜too defensive’ thing is a bit of a misnomer to be honest. We’ll never know how they’d have played if they hadn’t scored after 6 mins. You have to play the game in front of you. However….

The one thing I will say is they’ve spent a few years playing for set pieces and chasing total control (that they’d never, ever have in a game like this). They have become quite robotic. Too drilled. So when they had to change it up again, they didn’t know how to do it.

The amazing qualities Arteta has instilled in them - and they are so well coached - is stifling them in the biggest games. Saka was basically an extra right back for example. That’s what they have to change. Other coaches get very heavily criticised for that attitude.
