Taxation of veterinary antibiotics? Could it be a solution to reduce antimicrobial resistance? [🧵1/4]
doi.org/10.1016/j.onehlt.202…
Yes, potentially. Our paper in One Health suggests a similar effect of taxes when compared with current bans on antibiotic usage in food animals.

This study combines price elasticities of demand and epidemiological modelling to simulate the relationship between antibiotic resistance, antibiotic usage in food producing animals and changes in antibiotic prices.
Check out our modelling work published recently in One Health!
This PhD work shows that reducing antibiotic usage in livestock can increase human foodborne disease - but can be stopped by ensuring adequate biosecurity at the farm to fork pathway 🐮

A new study from @RanyaMulch estimating the global usage of antimicrobials in food-producing animals 💊
A fab paper from some pretty great scientists - Congrats @thvanboeckel, Yu Wang and @mariusgilbert!
[🚨Paper] How many tonnes of antimicrobials are used globally each year in food-producing animals🐄🐓🐷🐑? In 2020, we estimate this to be ~99,500 tonnes and -on current trends- project a 8%⬆️ by 2030 (~107,500 tonnes)... (1/5)
