222K likes. The fixed pie fallacy is probably the single most destructive delusion on the planet. The belief that wealth cannot be created—only distributed—has done more than any other to stop people from lifting themselves and others out of poverty.

A plausible and frightening vision of Europe's near future, ending in economic collapse and vassal status under the US or China. Enjoyed reading it, although I feel a little depressed now. europe2031.ai/

Sad milestone tonight: a user was acting suicidal with his Lindy, who proactively decided to escalate to support (we alerted health authorities in his locality). Feels weird. SF used to build "software" — just tools, to help you do stuff.

Now, we're still the same bunch of nerds, but building "something else" — it's not even clear what to call it. What's for sure is it's not "just a tool," and it comes with very different responsibilities: tech's having to build a new muscle.

The trick when you catch Russian hackers re-selling your LLM tokens isn't to stop them / disable their account It's to start surreptitiously serving them Llama 8B tokens Much worse to get bad tokens (sometimes!) than no tokens at all

I'll add to the Piketty dunking in one small way. His plan is to plunder valuable assets from the USA and hand them to less productive regions until outcomes are equalized. But, for the USA, he allots 0.115% annual growth (4590->5000/74 years). I'm sure he's aware that those assets are valued, generally, by the net present value of future free cash flows. And that by capping growth so low destroys the value he hopes to steal. And that baking this error into his model invalidates all the math that follows. It's difficult to steelman Piketty's arguments. By all indications, he's simply an anti-human zealot, neurotically and wrongly guilt-driven, with extinction as his goal.
The world today is characterized by large-scale inequalities. And a climate crisis is looming over us. We urgently need a new vision for global progress in the 21st Century. One that grounds human development and equality in planetary habitability. What would it take to achieve high prosperity and equality while remaining within planetary boundaries? The World Inequality Lab is very excited to launch the #GlobalJusticeReport. [1/7]

San Francisco is already horrendously over-budgeted: $16B for ~850k people is more than any major county in world. If you care about efficiency and good governance you should categorically vote No on any tax or bond.
Mayor Daniel Lurie supports the November ballot measure that would impose a parcel tax on homeowners and landlords and raise funds for Bay Area transit agencies. 📝: @leahygarrett sfstandard.com/2026/05/28/sa…

We're crossing the "stop making fun of Europe, it's sad" threshold right now There's nothing I like more than bashing the europoor, but even I am starting to feel bad for them Nevertheless, I persist
Equal work deserves equal pay. Three years ago, the EU adopted the Pay Transparency Directive. Now, EU countries are bringing these new rules into national law: ✔️ Pay transparency for jobseekers ✔️ Right to information for employees ✔️ Gender pay gap reporting ✔️ Joint pay assessments Because equal pay starts with pay transparency.

Here's a snapshot of the biological insult from international travel. It takes your body over two weeks to fully recover. It's a big price tag. One international trip per quarter is a reasonable balance. Time to recover: > sleep duration: 2 days > grip strength: 5 days > mood: 1 wk > cortisol: 9 days > sleep quality: 2 wks > blood glucose: 2 wks

God these takes are dumb. Anthropic founders have been saying the same thing about AI risk for years. The entire reason Anthropic was founded was because they disagreed with OpenAI’s safety stance. Feeling smart by being cynical is like midwit catnip.

"LLM cost until yesterday was our biggest cost as a company, more than payroll, which is kind of insane when you think about it." @Altimor, founder of @getlindy, explains why they switched from Anthropic to DeepSeek: "For 12 months, every time we tried an open source model we were like, 'Yep, it's bullshit.' But we kept saying, 'Let's not be disillusioned, we can feel that gap closing.'" "Four months ago I had a tweet saying, 'Those models are so bad.' Now, 'It's closed the gap and it's working. It's incredible.'" "You don't need God to write your email, at some point you tap out of intelligence, and if you can get those lower tiers for a tenth of the price, it would be foolish not to."
Pulled the trigger today and switched 100% of Lindy traffic to DeepSeek v4, churning from Anthropic models. Saves us millions of $ and we're actually seeing an *increase* in performance on many core use cases. Transformative for the business.

We've tested new OSS models the moment they're released for a while at Lindy. Inference is our #1 cost by a lot (more than payroll) — cutting it by 2-5x would be transformative. Last year, OSS models were "not even close." 3 mos ago, "almost there." Came close to making Kimi K2.5 our default. I think we are right now crossing the line to "at the frontier, for most use cases." GLM-5.1 in particular is incredible and will likely be our default soon. Surprised by this development — OSS caught up.

NEW: DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company, is one of the fastest growing vendors on Ramp. In probably the biggest sign that companies are looking for cheaper alternatives to OpenAI and Anthropic, some are willing to use cheaper, Chinese models, sending U.S. data back and forth from China-hosted servers.
