Why would the government have an obligation to search for and save the life of a billionaire who willingly took a submarine to the ocean floor but not a kid with cancer who can’t afford healthcare?
Imagine if the USA closed all their overseas bases, cut military spending by 90%, and tried to actually compete with China by building infrastructure, educating citizens and growing their own economy.
Radical concept, I know.
The point is that being certified to e.g. EAL5 and AVA_VAN.5 has turned out to not actually mean very much. Devices meant to guard against state-level actors have repeatedly fallen to much weaker attackers.
To the best of my knowledge, formal verification (preferably with the proofs made publicly available) is the only way to stop the stream of easy software-only attacks.
What use is there for hardware-backed AES keys, as opposed to e.g. HMAC or asymmetric algorithms? The only one I can think of is encrypting another key.
It's really wild that centrist folk want there to be some magical "both sides" to everything. No, sometimes it is just that clear. Sometimes there is not some deep complexity involved.
"How do you know?"
I look at a situation and apply my brain. Very straightforward stuff.
Promoting layered protections, like universal masking with respirator masks, holding events outdoors, testing before gathering, and high quality ventilation and HEPA filtration drastically reduce risk of spreading COVID. The more layers, the better!
We seem to have spent $384b on submarines while also saying we can’t have everything, which seems like a template usable by advocates for disadvantaged people. It never seems to work like that, though; Miners and armies get whatever they want while the poor squabble over crumbs.
It's unfortunate that there isn't funding for our developer to work on developing duress features and overall lockscreen security improvements, but instead finding a symptom of a systemic issue could have gotten them $70k if they had focused on filing that upstream ASAP instead.
Fortunately? Curiosity and creativity is a superb combination, but most schools discourage both. A wide range of interests and experiences is necessary to develop the highest level of creativity.
Policymakers truly need to have Long Covid numbers down into the "single digit", or as low as possible. This is because they don't want the population to grasp the full extent of harm caused by their mass infection policies. So, they're trying to muddle the water on what LC is
I find it funny seeing infectious diseases doctors recommending dropping mask requirements for nurses to media as a way of relieving their burnout. Other more traditional ways of reducing burnout for nurses include: paid sick leave, wage increases, more resources
there’s a reason you wouldn’t use “discipline” to describe how men should “handle women” anymore, and it’s the same reason we should stop using it for how parents interact with kids. i for one wouldn’t “mutually agree” to use of that word if i was a kid and understood its legacy.
