I'm so excited to share this with you all, despite really struggling to write this play (and was very close to giving up, I won't lie) I wanna thank
@rxtheatre @TheFreeFringe for giving me the chance to create this piece because I don't think I would have done so otherwise.
ALT Here's a brief blurb about the show:
'Sohni' is a spoken word poetry event based on the Indian folktale ‘Sohni & Mahiwal’. The original folktale is a forbidden love story exploring sacrifice and status between a potter (Sohni) and a trader (Izzat Beg). The folktale is focalised through the lens of three characters: Victoria, David and Sohni who share their personal interpretations of the story through different styles of spoken word ranging from slow, rhythmic, rap with live music soundtracking the performers. I wanted to deconstruct the orientalist gaze and challenge the misinterpretation of South-Asian and Muslim culture. So please come and see our PBH Free Fringe show ‘Sohni’ at The Street, Venue 239 from the 25-27 of August from 6.40-7.10pm. Thank you xx
