I’d like to think I know a thing or two about war memorials, but in Valletta this week, I visited what I think may be one of the most powerful I’ve seen. 1/

Here is ‘my’ DH9 looking fabulous in the Duxford sunshine. Can’t quite register that it was 25 years ago that I hauled this aircraft, and the IWM static example, out of a Rajasthan elephant stable.

We held a wonderfully uplifting service this afternoon in our Recreation Hut to celebrate the life of Dora Ringland. Dora has been a supporter of GWH ever since her first visit. It was lovely to be part of the celebration of her life among her family & friends. Thank you, Dora x

Anyone coming to @GreatWarHuts tonight for Hutted Histories will find out why this is funny at around 20:00…at my expense. Not to be missed!
It’s not very often that you receive an urgent message which says, “Don’t forget the Brodrick Cap!”. Looking forward to talking about uniforms, equipment and weapons at @GreatWarHuts tonight! 😁👍🏻 #HuttedHistories #MostUnpopularArmyCapEver @AndInTheMorning

This weekend we launched our exhibition for #HeritageOpenDays! This year’s HODs theme is #RoutesNetworksConnections, so our Guard House exhibition explores the routes in which men and women joined the Armed Forces on the outbreak of war 110 years ago in 1914. 🧵 1/

It's the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Mons tomorrow. As with all history, separating the facts from the mythology, and understanding the difference, is something that should be done if we claim to 'remember' those who were there - combattants and civilians alike.

‘I’ll have a photo with you, but only if you put this on!!’ Happy as anything to be back out, seeing chums and telling stories.
Another highlight of our tour was bumping into @AndInTheMorning. Mr Lowis is full of determination, but not plum and apple - just an open sandwich special from Hooge Crater Museum and cafe. Suffolk Regiment 👍 #Stabilis.

So, here it is. Can the IWM *really* claim © on Crown Copyright images etc where copyright has long expired? Surely these images should be out of copyright & free to use, right? Right? /1 #History #Heritage #Museums

Have now dried off and warmed up after spending a wicked few days with the 2nd Duke of Boots’ (or the West Riding Regiment, as they so often told me) in the trenches at @GreatWarHuts. Here are a few of my favourite moments, in photos. 1/10
