We wrote this before the change of government. Nothing has changed. If anything, it’s getting worse.

We are becoming increasingly alarmed at what we have heard this week.
The Cornoner's Report into the death of Ruth Perry followng her Ofsted inspection recommended a Learning Review. This was conducted by Dame Christine Gilbert. She recommended an independent post inspection survey but this was rejected by Ofsted.

There’s something so incredibly humbling about the London Marathon. Ordinary people cheering on ordinary people with such genuine joy and happiness. Proud to have once lived and worked in such an inclusive city.

Congratulations to Sabastian Sawe on an historic run, and to everyone taking part in the London Marathon today. A huge effort from thousands of participants, volunteers and supporters from right across the country.

Set a treadmill at 21kph ( max most will go to) and try to run for 30 seconds on it. That's what he did for 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. The peak of human physical achievement. Insane, absolutely insane.
A moment we thought we would never see 🤯 Sabastian Sawe has become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours in race conditions.

Such a privilege to see Sabastian Sawe in the flesh as he flew past us today. Even coooler that my lad was in the same race as him! #LondonMarathon

My lad is making his debut in the London Marathon on Sunday. Very proud.🏅 If you have a spare bob or two to donate to Doctors of the World @DOTW_UK (his chosen charity) then that would be lovely. 🚑 Thank you. 🙏🏼 2026tcslondonmarathon.enthus…

Great to see @patrick_hurley sticking up for the NHS immediately following PMQs. I live in his constituency and have seen the difference @UKLabour are making. 👏🏻

As a teenager in the 80's, Andy Kershaw was a must watch & listen to. His knowledge & enthusiasm of music was huge, and he had a lovely presenting style. I'm very sad he's left us. RIP Sir. Thank you for the magic.

If you vote Tory here in Southport, you may well end up with Reform. A Tory councillor here defected to Reform last year. And just today, the former Tory MP defected to Reform too!!! You can’t trust that if you vote Conservative, that they’ll serve their full term as a Tory.
For once, Farage is right. The choice in Merseyside next month is indeed between a centre left Labour Party and the radical right-wing Reform UK.

There is nothing boring about @Keir_Starmer He is a very intelligent man who is busy #FixingBritain after 14 years of total madness of Tory Government. He has integrity & he thinks before he speaks. He is self contained & does not need to show off! We are lucky to have him as PM!
He may be boring and unpopular but Keir Starmer got the big one right. open.substack.com/pub/davida…

Where to put it? Maybe close to the fire? Sadly, a good hearth these days is hard to find.
My daughter just sent me this, Facebook Marketplace, a £10, she thinks I should I get it? 🤔

Tomorrow, UKIP are set to march in Liverpool. There is no place in our city for their scapegoating. Love is greater than hate. Unity is stronger than division and racism. Hope is more powerful than fear. We are Liverpool – a city of hope, not hate. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c05v…

I genuinely cannot believe we’re still having this same conversation. Attainment v Achievement. I remember over 30 years ago having the exact same discussion in a staff meeting when Ofsted first landed.
I analysed almost 500 inspections to see if schools with disadvantaged intakes are performing worse on pupil outcomes. The findings show that it's disproportionate. Heads say it's demoralising as they urge Ofsted not to confuse achievement & attainment. tes.com/magazine/news/genera…

I think we knew that! Nothing has changed. It’s been like that for years & years. Context does not matter (so they tell us).. As a retired head (17 yrs in post) of a very disadvantaged secondary school I was told poverty is not an excuse! It’s not but context is important!
Exclusive: Schools with the highest proportion of disadvantaged pupils are more likely to be marked down by Ofsted in the achievement category, Tes can reveal tes.com/magazine/news/genera…

I’m sure you’ve read this powerful piece by now (unless you work for Ofsted). Edmund contributed to our @Headrest_UK book called ‘Beyond Belief: Why school accountability is broken and how to fix it.’ @Ofstednews presumably never read that either. Beyond Belief, and then some.
I’ve been away for a bit. We haven’t been having the best time, to be honest. I’ve noticed a few things happening with Ofsted and their supporters recently, and I’ve written about it. Ofsted, of course, are driving on regardless. difficultlessons.wordpress.c…

The book is packed with insights from serving school leaders on how to fix the system. A year on from publication, and if anything, it’s got worse. amzn.eu/d/04CXdZ05
