@1a We are refugee foster parents and have kids in our home who chose to be placed with a foster family instead of host/family because they knew they would have to work if they lived with family.
The challenge is that she has family she chose not to live with because she wanted to go to school. Her family simply would not afford to have her live with them and not work though.
We just added space to our home so we can continue to be family for our kids no matter how old they are, but we are privileged to have stable income (definitely NOT from fostering!), but most families of kids from Central America do not have those resources.
I'm a home cook feeding a family of four.
I love everything about the cooking process, from prep to tasting and it allows me to detatch from life and relax.
Cooking at home is an amazing experience, so come along with me if you love home cooking too and let's learn together!
When I was working security at @fullerseminary, I got called to the school library to chase a streaker who was wearing (only) tennis shoes, a backpack, and a mask. I didn't stop to think what I would do if I caught him until later...(thankfully I didn't catch him!)
What is your most unhinged story from grad school?
Mine was probably the time I picked a dead flounder up off the lab floor and then ran to a public bathroom with it in my hands and sobbed over its body in a stall.

On this day in 1954, the United States backed a coup against Jacobo Ćrbenz, the progressive, democratically elected leader of Guatemala, because he sought to restore land to small farmers and Indigenous communities that had been dispossessed by US fruit companies.
