Pal et al. present “Can transperineal ultrasound replace endoscopic ultrasound in staging distal ulcerative colitis?” via bit.ly/4bT33VM (Endoscopy news). A less invasive future? This study explores whether transperineal ultrasound could replace endoscopic ultrasound for staging distal ulcerative colitis, showing promising agreement between techniques and opening the door to more patient-friendly assessment. @ParthaP32580643 @DrLakhtakia #IBD #UC #Ultrasound

IBD-associated arthritis isn’t one disease - it’s a spectrum. From Type 1 and Type 2 peripheral arthritis to axial SpA, enthesitis, and dactylitis, each pattern behaves differently and demands a different approach. A quick visual to keep the distinctions clear in practice. #IBD #Crohns #UlcerativeColitis #Spondyloarthritis #Rheumatology #MedEd #ClinicalPearls #Arthritis #Enthesitis #Dactylitis @DrAkhilX @IhabFathiSulima

Who needs a rheumatology referral? Chronic back pain >3 months, onset before 45 ANY SpA feature. Think: uveitis, psoriasis, IBD, enthesitis, dactylitis, great NSAID response, ↑CRP.

In a UK study of 5.16M pregnancies (2000–2021), autoimmune disease in pregnancy rose from 3.5% to 4.7%. IBD was the 2nd most prevalent autoimmune condition after psoriasis. Autoimmune risk was higher in ex-smokers, multiparas, and women with mental or metabolic comorbidities. Much remains to be understood about how pregnancy affects the immune state of both mother and baby. @TheLancet @LancetGastroHep thelancet.com/journals/lanrh…
