Update from Germany’s disruptive innovation initiative
@SPRIND on the wallet competition they are holding. I love the principles here on how it’s organised:
- Smaller companies (on the left hand side) are funded, but at the end of the competition have to open source their wallet and backend code
- Larger companies (on right hand side) are not funded and don’t have to open source their code, but many are choosing to.
To me, this mirrors the UK Gov Digital Services approach on making sure publicly funded code is open sourced.
There are three stages in the competition, and at the end of each stage, a jury decides on which participants continue to the next stage. I liked how considered the approach was from the Sprin-D team. They’ll release one German govt funded EUDI wallet, but *also* create the mechanism for 3rd party/private wallets to exist so that there’s no “wallet lock-in”.

@AnimoSolutions as this progresses, as they are still in the game!
