I no longer identify with the Arab identity after learning how the Arab conquests imposed their language and culture on my ancestors.
I wasn’t aware of this history before, nor of the suffering my ancestors experienced.
Now that I know more about it, identifying as Arab no longer feels right to me.
Whatever your reasons, I respect it.
But, don’t lump us together and say all Egyptians are Arabs because of a language we were forced to speak.
It is imperative to the Zionist project to claim Arabs carried out settler-colonialism in Egypt and Palestine or whatever and the only correct response to this is to BOTH emphasize our pre-Arab heritage and NOT disown our Arab identity and consider it something "lesser"
