#MeteorSighting: Eyewitnesses in New England and @NOAA’s GOES-19 satellite reported a bright fireball on Saturday, May 30, at 2:06 p.m EDT accompanied by a loud noise. The meteor appears to have fragmented at an altitude of 40 miles over northeast MA and southeast NH. The energy released at breakup is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, which accounts for the loud noise. Eyewitness accounts supplied by the American Meteor Society.

CENTCOM Update TAMPA, Fla. – As of 9:30 am ET, March 1, three U.S. service members have been killed in action and five are seriously wounded as part of Operation Epic Fury. Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing. The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.

Absolutely heartbreaking. There was just a procession of police and the medical examiner off of Route 146 in Uxbridge after an Uxbridge police officer was killed while assisting a driver early this morning. @wbz

Nuno Loureiro, a father of three and professor at MIT, was shot in his own home in the Boston suburb of Brookline on Monday. He died in the hospital the next day. FBI in Boston said there is no connection between the fatal shooting of Loureiro and the shooting at Brown University over the weekend, where two students were killed and nine others were injured.
