It can be difficult to grasp just how recent the Mexicanization of America is. In the 1970s, less than 70,000 net Mexicans were immigrating per year. Then from 1980-2010, you had about 700,000 net migrating every year, on top of Baby Boom levels of TFR.
Mexico net annual migration by decade using births and census counts: 1940-1950: 20k 1950-1960: -70k 1960-1970: -145k 1970-1980: -67k 1980-1990: -751k 1990-2000: -717k 2000-2010: -643k 2010-2020: -206k

The clearest 11 minutes I have heard on why the AI capex boom may not pay off. @ChrisBloomstran at the Zurich Project on the depreciation wall, ~$650B of off-balance-sheet SPV debt, and the circular financing between Nvidia, OpenAI, and the hyperscalers.

I got thousands of rare Cultural Revolution-era photos from a historical archive here in China. I believe some of these have never been posted online, or only exist behind extremely expensive licenses. So here they are, for free. Open the thread for more.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Then most people should eat shit and play something else. If you're too stupid to figure out how to use an emulator (which is easier than it has ever been) you might be more suited to hobbies like watching sports or being a Kpop stan.
Replying to @rinsass
It’s easy to replace what ain’t accessible. Most people won’t have an emulator or the know how or the patience to pirate a rom to play OOT or whatever. A lot of old games have modern day ports but many many many do not. So of course the remake will replace them.

The one saving grace for the Ocarina remake is that it was always a piss-easy game for literal babies so there's really not much they could do to make it easier. It may even get people to realize how overrated the game was to begin with.

Some article ideas for any Substackers out there: - How to get away with tax evasion. - How to take over a small city (L. Ron Hubbard's Clearwater, Florida attempt as case study). - How to rig a local election. - How to commit massive welfare fraud (Minnesota as case study).
