The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) commemorates International Human Rights Day (IHRD) 2025 by reflecting on both the challenges and progress surrounding freedom of expression (FOE) in Malaysia. At a time where globally we are facing unprecedented turbulence, growing sense of insecurity and an alarming erosion of human rights, Malaysia is not immune to this trend. This year’s theme, “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials” gives us a reminder that human rights, including that of freedom of expression (FOE), is a human right that should be conferred upon all peoples as a necessity as it enables the public to pursue self-realisation and demand for all other rights for their life and sustainability. ***** Read the full statement at our website.
