Lotteries used as a tiebreaker for #academic #research #funding? I love this idea! This would automatically increase diversity in funded research, reduce bias and assessor workload. Are there any downsides? nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Wow some great stuff here. I like it.
I’ve just had a holiday, and unlike many my dream holiday is being at home. One of my greatest pleasures is to work ON my home, not just in the DIY sense but on ‘home-making’, making it an increasingly pleasant place to be. To me this is also a deeply political issue. /1

Very important - *the trouble with scientific neutrality* given so little time to make meaningful change Why it is ethical and effective for scientists to now engage in civil disobedience to spur necessary life saving climate action published in @Nature nature.com/articles/s41558-0…

Super graphic, important analysis by @ICCS_updates Mike Clark & colleagues. Shame about the #cheese score, though pizza just about passes muster.

Loved this article in the @GuardianAus, and in particular this plot of actual and projected emissions by country or region. You can instantly see where a country's climate pledge seems feasible. theguardian.com/environment/…

A lack of long-term governance regarding #biodiversity no-net-loss policies risks failure of objectives & could distract from much needed transformative change. Read more in this insightful Perspective from Florence Damiens, Anna Backstrom & @ascelin @RMIT cell.com/one-earth/fulltext/…

Thanks for the nice commentary on our #offset paper @sophusticated. It's seems the current political climate means we're a long way from offsets resulting in transformational charge. I don't see that changing any time soon, but here's hoping for unexpectedly large charges soon.
Wanna quickly discuss this stand-out new offsetting paper by Florence Damiens, @Ascelin @LibbyJPorter - in my view one of the most important offset papers ever written. nature.com/articles/s41893-0…
