I know I am being a bit pernickety and precise, and am aware that the OP is a former shadow Attorney General and a senior barrister, but the Accession Council did not "choose the next King of England", it merely affirmed the succession of the Crown of the UK as prescribed by law.
Hi Frances, I know it was 4 yrs ago, but your memory lets you down. You asked to see me on the day that I attended the Privy Council to choose the next King of England. My minion, as you called her, apologised & offered other dates. Not a coward, just busy - like many women👑

The ECJ recently forced Poland to accept gay marriage. Can the ECJ force EU member-states to allow first-cousin marriage as well, at least first cousin marriage conducted legally in states that allow it? What about the ECHR? Are any legal challenges planned?

The irony of this thread is that the sarcasm of the original post has passed the American responders by completely.
Americans explaining to Brits how 26 °C (79 °F) isn’t hot while living in air conditioned detached houses made of wood.

Canada also has a (sea) border with France (St Pierre et Miquelon). Thus, like Germany, Canada is sandwiched between France and Denmark.

I think the salary is exactly the London living wage (£14.80 per hour, assuming a working week of 37.5 hours a week). The job is essentially being diary secretary to the Chief Secretary/chief of staff to the UK Prime Minister, and comes with late hours on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Whenever you hear people wanting to move the British Parliament to any other part of the realm, this is one of the major roadblocks. Utter pittance of a pay for what essentially locks out anyone that doesn't live in a SW postcode area.

While he is indeed the male line descendant of Oswald Mosley, the Ravensdale peerage was created for Lord Curzon, the former Viceroy of India. His daughter married Oswald Mosley and the title passed through her to her and Oswald's son, Nicholas.
Daniel Mosley, 4th Baron Ravensdale Facts for Kids share.google/wLHdn5vlgDOAbZP… A great day for Sir Oswald Mosley's descendants. His great grandson Lord Ravensdale is a hereditary peer, but has now been given a life peerage.

Hi UK friends, for a preview of what weird things arise when you have a first-past-the-post system but a breakdown of a two-party vote preference, please examine the double-layered coalition of the Malaysian Dewan Rakyat. The Crown may also play a more active role for stability.
I feel like Malaysian federal politics is even more fractal and inscrutable. These are the parties. They are in two layers of coalition. Yes they're all known by acronyms.

I am delighted to see the Earl Howe make the list. From memory (and @AmIRightSir can confirm), Lord Howe has been on the front bench of the Lords since 1991, the longest continuous such presence in decades. He is highly regarded in the Lords for his emollient approachability.

Annoyingly I can't respond in the usual way to this tweet. While a defeat on the King's Speech will likely lead to the end of this government, it does not automatically lead to a dissolution and a GE. x.com/genesian61/status/2054…

Replying to @MatthewSproul13
Yes. It would be a quick legal way to a Dissolution & a GE. A government falls automatically if it can't get its King's Speech through Parliament. We'll see.

Sir Keir could resign and advise the the appointment of another member of the Labour Party as Prime Minister. So long as the King is convinced that that person will have the confidence of the Commons (which the Opposition can always test), that person becomes the Prime Minister.

The UK does not have the concept of an interim or a deputy Prime Minister. The person so appointed will be the King's Prime Minister as long as they maintain the confidence of the Commons or until they resign (due to intra party events).
