This was a fantastic event. The voices heard today at Stormont were experts who live with disability every day. We need to listen to them and deliver the changes necessary to make our transport, hospitals, schools, streets etc… more inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Today we hosted the Disabled People's Parliament here at Parliament Buildings.
This unique sitting of the Assembly, which brought together individuals and representatives from a range of organisations, served as a powerful platform for sharing the real, lived experiences of Deaf and disabled people in Northern Ireland, scrutinising the impact of current policies, and calling for meaningful change.
Northern Ireland Assembly Speaker Edwin Poots MLA said: "The Disabled People's Parliament was important for direct democratic engagement. The motion set out the expectation that public policy must be measured by how well it serves the people it is designed for.
“We look forward to receiving the recommendations and encourage Ministers and Departments to consider them to seek to make everyday life work better for everyone."
