Today, one of our meteorologists is retiring after 31 years of federal service. Since March of 1999, Bruce has been at NWS Norman, after a start in San Antonio. Lots of weather and forecasts behind him, but now a well deserved retirement awaits him. Well done, Bruce.
Severe thunderstorm warning for a storm just northwest of Wendell, ID through 3:15pm MDT for 1" hail. This storm has 1" hail in the pink/white shading.
This afternoon's Boise upper air (balloon) sounding had 1.57 inch of precipitable water (an indicator of rainfall potential). This amount ranks second most all-time in records dating back to 1948. Only Aug 21, 2023, with 1.67 inch from remnants of a tropical storm, had more.
🚿 An anomalously moist atmosphere for this time of year is moving into the region. Expect showers and storms each day through Thursday. Storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding, so a Flash Flood Watch has been issued. @idwx
⛈️ Here's a quick overview of the precipitation forecast for locations in our area. While Wednesday is still the "wettest" day in the forecast, storm activity today is on the rise for this evening. Forecast amounts generally rise with elevation. #idwx
📡 Radar 1:30 PM: Storms have continued to develop, most rainfall totals are around 0.1 to 0.3 inches. However, a few locations have seen up to 0.5 to 1.5 inches. Watch for storms that appear stationary in the loop below. #idwx
